Confidence and self-esteem are things you used to take in your stride in the past are now proving difficult and you are finding normal situations awkward and uncomfortable.

Confidence and self-esteem are always being confused as the same thing. They are however two different beliefs systems but they can be interrelated.

One is related to how you perform tasks and if you perform them successfully (Confidence), the other is related to how you feel about yourself (Self-esteem). Example: I have good self-esteem but I have no confidence that I can fly a jet. 

 

However, the better you feel about yourself, the easier it becomes to build confidence for a specific task  -and the reverse of this is also true, the lower your self esteem, the less confidence you will have in mastering a task.
